What is the difference between Refer and Alliance Network?

Prior to 2004 the Refer and Alliance Network systems were two separate software packages, each with their own unique features. The development of Refer started in 1994 and Alliance Network was written in 2001/2002 using newer technology. Taking the best features from each system, the two systems were merged in order to create the new version 7 Refer and Alliance systems.

Since 2005, Refer7 and Alliance Network are identical software systems (except for the names) and are still the software of choice for professional I&R organizations. The two names remain in order to make a distinction between the two user groups.

Both systems are developed using Microsoft Visual Studio and Visual Studio.NET use either Microsoft SQL Server or Access2000/2003 databases.

Refer and Alliance Network are available in two versions:

  • Microsoft Access Version - for organizations with fewer than 100,000 calls per year. Call and resource data is stored in Access databases
  • Microsoft SQL Server Version - for organizations with more than 100,000 calls per year. Call and resource data is stored in SQL Server
